3-for-1 Driving Lessons: Accelerate Your 120 Log Book Hours in NSW
How to Quickly Accumulate Log Book Hours (NSW)
Achieving a driver's license is a pivotal milestone for young drivers. The journey from passing the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) to obtaining a P1 license demands considerable time, effort, and support from family, friends, and professional instructors.
Log Book Requirements in NSW
For drivers under 25 in NSW, the government mandates at least 120 hours of supervised driving, including 20 hours at night, under the supervision of a fully licensed driver or a licensed driving instructor.
How to log learner hours in NSW?
There are two ways you can record your hours:
the paper log book – given to you when you get your learner licence, or.
one of the digital log book apps accepted by Transport for NSW and Service NSW.
Strategies to Accumulate Log Book Hours
There are various methods to fulfll the 120-hour requirement:
Supervised Driving: Most learners rely on family and friends with a full Australian license. However, these supervisors might not be the most up-to-date or equipped to provide comprehensive driving education.
Licensed Driving Instructors: Building foundational skills with a professional instructor is essential.
NSW Safe Driving Course: Participating in a Safe Driving Course can account for 20 hours of your log book requirement. These courses cover essential topics like speed management and handling distractions.
3-for-1 Driving Lessons: The NSW Government offers an incentive where each hour spent with a licensed driving instructor counts as three log book hours. This scheme allows you to log up to 30 hours by taking 10 lessons, each typically lasting one hour.
Night Driving Requirements
Among the 120 hours, at least 20 must be night-time driving hours. Night driving, between sunset and sunrise, often involves navigating challenging conditions like fog, ensuring you gain diverse driving experience.
Log Book Verification
Before your driving test, a testing officer will verify your log book entries. Failure to meet the requirements will result in having to rebook your test.
